halyards and sheets

i often hear routines
repeating every day
make life predictable
which isn't worth living

and i have to agree or
be condemned as boring
even though nobody would
believe i actually was

trying hard to find it
long ropes across days
routine weaving a grip
to help me hold through

jumbles of accidents all
around us even random
invisible pieces components
awash in the sea of horizons

grand kids

kids many colors
laughs and screams
the blown-up castle
huge soft bouncing

off the walls
and the grand dad
who inflated it all

looking on memories
looking on ahead
at the short time
bouncing about
in bright colored
castles must last

and so we try to correct
with distortions of our own
compensating for what we must
breathe through what we must
see so we might better learn
how we are compelled to know

utopia

describe what is yours
would another define it
in relation to themself

or would we like trees
shove in space to win
only distant cooperation
while the weaker fall
