    want
to hold all the cards
  but you did
and you did your duty
    just
as you should do

and i wanted to say
    yes
but it was all i had left
  to say no
my one useless card
we both watched fall

our trajectory balances
between coherence
   and the random seeds
   bumps upon substrates
gravity holds in line

and the little knocks
peeking through edges
   are nothing
but what might be
determined by numbers
just as 9 drifts sculptural
precisely as predicted

when i knew more
than i know today
it was easy
  deciding
who you are
  even
while you
have no idea

it's a break
to the norm
   stopping
for no one
   reason
other
than to serve
   yourself

sometimes silence is best
as the day sinks into chairs
all weight sliding slowly
to the start of dreams
where everything begins
   again as the sun
on the world's other side
grows the wakend day's work
here we drift back down
in our turn, in our axis
traversing in wake and sleep
   the endless arc
