a neighbor's dog barking
ran over jumping on me
so i could tell her
how good she was and i did
while walking with her over
to the man's house where he was
working in the garage he stopped
and we chatted about taxes
swearing and complaining
while the dog kept insisting
on more praise and the old one
who could barely walk came over
quivering for some kind attention
and as i walked home i wondered
how i could not have predicted
this but somehow it made complete
sense for me to be like this here
